Demystifying the CA High School Exit Exam

Who takes it, and what's on it, and preparation for it

With all the media focus on the California High School Exit Exam, it is easy to forget that it is an integral part of a state scheme to raise academic achievement for all California children.

The categories in the chart above are related to preparing students to pass the Exit Exam.  Links on the circle above will take you to more information about each subject.   Click on the green box that says "CAHSEE - High School Exit Exam" to begin and link on the boxes in a clock wise direction.

As a caveat, to make this immense subject more manageable, information about some educational measures have been simplified or omitted.  Things like new regulations for GATE, English Learner rules and regulations, special education rules and funding, teacher shortages, etc. and etc., are saved for another time.

Another caveat, we are not critiquing the Exit Exam. Our assumptions are that the Exit Exam is a reality, and to best understand how to prepare students to pass the Exit Exam, we need to be educated about it.

So, if you missed the live presentation on the Exit Exam, don't despair! This website is a written version of the brown bag lunch Exit Exam presentation.  Please read it carefully as background for our local League's study about the CA High School Exit Exam.
