What are the projections as to what jobs industry and government will need twenty years into the future?

Will we have enough skilled workers to fill those jobs?

How are our educational institutions responding to ensure that we have educated workers for tomorrow’s jobs?

If we are parents, grandparents, aunts or uncles, how should we be mentoring young people so they are skilled and employable?

On February 6, 2006, Michael Kirst, Stanford Education Professor, author, and national education expert, Martha Kanter, Chancellor of the Foothill-De Anza Community College District, and Barry Groves, Superintendent of Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School District, discussed issues related to student achievement and educational opportunities.  Professor Kirst recently wrote a book called From High School to College  which raises issues of interest to anyone with a child or young adult in the education system and to anyone concerned about the future of our community and our country.

Participants also learned about programs, like MVLA Community Scholars and Partners for New Generations that are focused on greater opportunities for our community's youth.
