About Community Dialogues on Education
Founded in 2003, Community Dialogues on Education explores timely
and interesting topics in education and brings together thinkers,
practitioners, and community members.
Community Dialogues on Education models a productive process
for discussion of complex issues. Each Dialogue features
one or more speakers talking about issues within
the selected topic. After a presentation, the audience breaks
up into small discussion groups to further explore
the topic together.
The Dialogues have explored topics such as motivating children
to love learning, school finance, the role of the public in public
schools, and charter schools. Speakers have included Stanford
School of Education Dean Deborah Stipek, Stanford Professor of
Education Michael Kirst, Richard Whitmore, CFO WestEd, Merrill
Vargo from BASRC, Don Shalvey, CEO of Aspire Public Schools, Hoover
Institute Fellow Terry Moe, and others.
